As 2025 comes to a close, I’ve been thinking a lot about the extraordinary impact that the Minneapolis Parks Foundation has had on our beloved parks and the millions of people who enjoy them every year. It’s remarkable to look back at what we accomplished as a community of people dedicated to the belief that parks have the power to transform human lives.
Without a doubt, the groundbreaking at North Commons Park is a highlight from this past year and a powerful example of what we can accomplish together. This project will transform not just a park, but the opportunities and experiences available to families across North Minneapolis and the region. I’m grateful to all the community members, partners, neighbors, and donors who have supported this transformative project.
In particular, I’m grateful for the Wilson Foundation’s transformative $4 million grant in support of the North Commons project. This generous grant moves us significantly closer to its fundraising finish line and establishes a $2 million matching gift challenge to inspire community giving. Any and every gift in support of North Commons will be matched 2:1!
We also celebrated the 10th anniversary of Posters for Parks, a milestone that speaks to the creativity and passion of Minneapolis park lovers. What started as a small idea has grown into a beloved tradition. But more importantly, this event has an important purpose in supporting great community-driven ideas through the People For Parks Fund.
And last but certainly not least, at the beginning of 2025 we were proud to announce the new endowment with the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board. Establishing a permanent fund dedicated to protecting and enhancing our park system for generations to come is an achievement rooted in partnership, trust, and the steady support of donors who see the value in thinking decades ahead.
Milestones like these don’t happen by accident. They happen because supporters, like you, believe in the power of parks to connect us, to inspire us, and to strengthen our communities.
