Eye on Flinders Street Station Design Competition

Down under, the Victorian Coalition Government is overseeing a wildly inspiring design competition to rejuvenate one of the city’s most recognized historic places and its busiest train station.

Over 150,000 people use Flinders Street Station daily. Built in 1910 and located in the heart of the Central Business District, Flinders Street Station now “needs to connect with its neighbours, including the CBD, the Yarra River, Federation Square, Southbank, and the western end of the site.” (Mind the British, spelling, American readers.)

Six internally recognized teams were shortlisted:

  • Ashton Raggatt McDougall (Melbourne)
  • John Wardle Architects + Grimshaw (Melbourne and UK)
  • HASSELL + Herzog & de Meuron (Melbourne and Switzerland)
  • NH Architecture (Melbourne)
  • Eduardo Velasquez + Manuel Pineda + Santiago Medina (Colombia via University of Melbourne)
  • Zaha Hadid Architecture & BVN Architecture (UK and Melbourne)

While a jury will select the formal winning team, community members are invited to participate in a “People’s Choice” poll.
