Introducing Matt Karl, MPF’s Business & Administration Manager

The Minneapolis Parks Foundation recently welcomed Matt Karl in the newly-created position of Business and Administration Manager. Matt is responsible for a wide array of office functions, including accounting, budgeting, technology, board support, and human resources.

Matt has had a long career in nonprofit accounting and administration, most recently at the American Craft Council. He has also worked at the Nonprofits Assistance Fund, the Charities Review Council, Great River Greening, and (during a stint in Seattle) the Hearing Speech and Deafness Center. While Matt’s Bachelor’s Degree is in Theater Arts, he has certificates in Accounting and in Database Management and a Master’s Degree in Technical Communication from Metropolitan State University.

Matt grew up in Marshalltown, near the geographic center of Iowa. After college in Columbia, Missouri, and New York City, he settled in the Twin Cities. You could say he came for the theater but stayed for the outdoor recreation. Matt enjoys bicycling, kayaking, hiking, backpacking, camping, and cross-county skiing. He owns four bicycles (road, mountain, commuting, folding) and wants a fifth (recumbent). Matt and his spouse live in south Minneapolis with Darby the bearded collie and Jackie the calico cat.
