Minneapolis Mayoral Candidates Weigh in on Design and Development

Mayoral Candidate Forum

What will the future mayor do to support smart design and encourage continued development in the city of Minneapolis?

Seven candidates this past Thursday, September 26, had the chance to share their ideas and opinions on these very topics at the 2013 Mayoral Candidate Forum at International Market Square, hosted by American Institute of Architects Minneapolis and the Urban Land Institute Minnesota.

The candidates – Jackie Cherryhomes, Cam Winton, Don Samuels, Mark Andrew, Stephanie Woodruff, Betsy Hodges and Bob Fine – fielded questions from Nick Koch, Associate VP at HGA Architects and Engineers.

With so many candidates on panel, Koch had little time to ask a lot of questions, but topics covered included:

  • Density and transit
  • Diversity of housing choices
  • Sustainable building design
  • Balancing development with preservation
