Spring is a time when people renew their health commitments, and Minneapolis parks is where many turn to. With a vast network of trails and recreation centers across the city, access to physical activities couldn’t be any easier. This month, we bring you three fun and unique opportunities in the parks, to get your heart pumping while socializing with new friends.
Get a running start: November Project
The November Project is a national fitness movement with a strong presence in Minneapolis parks. The group gathers every Wednesday at 6:30am by the Mill City Museum for a run along the downtown Minneapolis riverfront. Best of all, it’s free and welcomes all ages, body types, and fitness levels. Their philosophy is: “Winters in Minnesota produce two types of people, those who curl up inside for four months, and those who embrace the elements as a challenge. Together, we aim to increase the latter.” Want to run with the November Project Minneapolis team? Click here.
Move with Zumba
Zumba is a fitness class with high energy aerobic and dance movements. Influenced by Colombian dance culture, this fun upbeat workout has taken root in a handful of Minneapolis recreation centers. The classes are instructor-led, offering different levels for all body types. See a list of classes at your nearest recreation center here.
Play Pickleball
Pickleball is a sport with elements borrowed from badminton, tennis, and table tennis. You can play it both indoors and outdoors, making it ideal for Minnesotans. This all-age sport happens to have a large senior citizen following, but don’t be fooled – many play the game at a high speed and fast pace. It is a dangerously fun sport to break a few sweats in your tennis shoes. Want to know where you can play Pickleball? Click here.
