ORGANIZATION SUMMARY
Minneapolis Parks Foundation is about fulfilling the almost limitless potential that great parks and inspiring public spaces have in building stronger connections between neighbors, fostering better outcomes for kids, driving economic opportunity for all, and even helping cities find new solutions to our most challenging problems from inequality to climate change.

Founded in 2003, the Minneapolis Parks Foundation is an independent, donor-supported nonprofit organization that transforms human lives through parks and public spaces by aligning philanthropic investment and community vision. As a thought leader, catalyst, and fundraiser, the Parks Foundation is uniquely positioned to help clarify the community’s interest and drive philanthropic investment, collaboration, and private sector expertise in support of the Minneapolis Park system.

The Parks Foundation partners with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) and other public agencies to guide transformative public realm initiatives and leads private fundraising and implementation of signature projects. We help donors invest in important park projects in Minneapolis and champion innovations within parks through curated events.

MISSION: The Minneapolis Parks foundation transforms human lives through parks and public spaces by aligning philanthropic investment and community vision.

VISION:  While celebrating all the varied benefits of Minneapolis’s nationally renowned and locally treasured system, the Minneapolis Parks Foundation focuses on elevating the capacity of our parks to deliver the following outcomes.

ADVANCE EQUITY AND CULTURAL INCLUSION
When all people have access to valued parks and public spaces, feel welcome, and see themselves reflected in those spaces, a community is healthier, safer, and happier.

FOSTER COMMUNITY HEALTH AND WELLBEING
Parks provide healthy air, water, and soil, and places to play and exercise, on both the individual and community level. Parks also provide places where we can learn about our neighbors and form new and deeper connections.

DEEPEN CONNECTIONS TO THE NATURAL WORLD
In our increasingly urbanized world, maintaining places of natural beauty, respite, and awe helps us maintain our humanity.

STRENGTHEN CLIMATE CHANGE RESILIENCY
Cities must adapt and develop new methods to protect and restore natural systems and clean water and to mitigate the economic impact of climate change.

SPARK ECONOMIC VITALITY
Thriving parks and public spaces can attract investment and bring prosperity to the broader community without sparking displacement.

OUR TEAM
There is nothing more powerful than collaboration. The pursuit of our mission requires everyone on the team to work hard and to support one another. We encourage relying on one another for the greater good of our work, our culture, and our community. We are “all hands-on deck”, we show-up and we may even get our hands dirty to reach desired outcomes.
