One of my favorite aspects of the work of the Minneapolis Parks Foundation is the partnerships forged through the People for Parks Fund. We created the Fund three years ago when we merged with the smaller, but longer tenured People for Parks organization and established an advisory committee to guide community investments into our parks and the people who activate them.
This year, we were able to fund eleven grants totaling more than $57,000 to organizations doing incredible work connecting people to our parks. Each of these grants are listed here.
From culturally centered activities to new park improvements, the grants are a way to give support to good ideas generated in the community. If you are interested in future grants, please sign up for our newsletter below and we’ll include you in the announcements next January. If you are interested in becoming involved in selecting the grants and raising money for the fund, please reach out to Christine Moir at CMoir@MplsParksFoundation.org to learn more. Every year in the late summer, we recruit new volunteers to join the committee and help expand our reach.
Parks are only as important as the communities they serve, and often times, good ideas need a little additional support to make magic happen. If you want to support the Fund, you can make a donation here or join us on June 22 for our first annual Sunset in the Parks – a pop-up fundraiser with donations that night going to support the People for Parks Fund.w
