Wintertime in Minneapolis is a magical season for our parks. Snow filled woods, freshly groomed ski trails, powder laden sledding hills, and seasonal skating rinks beckon us out into the cold willingly and with joy. And our recreation center gyms and classrooms welcome people for a myriad of activities and gatherings.
This time of year, I am always humbled to see the results of the work it takes to transition our parks from one season to another. In reality we have two park systems – summer parks and winter parks – and they require incredible effort and attention to maintain each year. From erecting skating rinks and winterizing pools and fountains, to providing gear and space for each season of sports and activities, our parks continue to improve lives year-round. It is truly a feat deserving of recognition every year.
The other seasonal activity that humbles me every year is the generosity of so many people who cherish our Minneapolis parks and contribute financially or with their time to help make what they love even better. Giving to the Minneapolis Parks Foundation is an important way people support our parks, and without that philanthropic spirit we would not be able to accomplish all that we do.
Every donation contributed to the Parks Foundation helps us advance our mission of transforming lives through Minneapolis parks and public spaces. This past year, your support has helped us invest in target grants from the People for Parks Fund, engage in community design for future park improvements, provide inspiring stories about how our parks transform lives, and activate parks in new and innovative ways.
Our work would not advance without your donations and involvement. Together we are supporting a system that elevates our city year-round. On behalf of our Board of Directors, the members of the People for Parks Fund Advisory Committee and Parks Foundation staff, we thank you for your support and faith in our mission and wish you and yours a happy holiday season and new year. We look forward to seeing you in the parks in 2023. Thank you!
