Three ways to unplug and beat the winter blues in Minneapolis Parks

The sometimes dark and gloomy days of winter can be physically and mentally taxing. Fortunately, Minneapolis parks offer an array of endless ways to keep us active during the cold months. Here are a few fun ways to make friends with Old Man Winter.

A Walk in the Park
Take a stroll in the park during daylight hours. This simple act of walking, especially when the sun is out, can do wonders for our health while making some vitamin D. Beyond the benefits of physical well-being, daily walks are a natural mood booster. Make it a social activity and walk with a friend on one of the many plowed park trails throughout Minneapolis.

Winter Play
Regardless of age, playing in the snow is a great way to activate the body and release endorphins! Think snowman building, skating, sledding, cross country skiing, and so much more. Embrace the cold for some winter play and head to your local neighborhood park.

Lake Harriet Winter Kite Festival, Jan. 26
The winter sky above Lake Harriet becomes a colorful canvas during the Lake Harriet Winter Kite Festival. Bring the whole family and enjoy this free and whimsical event! See the many different shapes, sizes, and designs as they dance in the sky above the frozen lake. The 18th Annual Winter Kite Festival is on January 26, 2019, from noon to 4pm at the north end of Lake Harriet. Click here for more information.
