However you define a “jury of your peers,” entrants to the just-wrapped Flinders Street Station Design Competition (Melbourne, Australia) were judged by them. First and formally by the panel of eminent architects and other experts, led by Victorian Government Architect Professor Geoffrey London, which selected the winning team (see below).
The public was invited to participate as well, in an online voting process that entranced design fans globally. While 82% of the 18,974 voters were from Australia, the competition website drew 1.5 million page views originating from 161 different countries.
Not surprisingly (?), “Joe Global” went a different route than “Jane Jury.” What’s your reaction to the winners and the split decision?
P.S. Don’t miss the competition booklets (People’s Choice Overview, Jury Report) – the photography is amazing.
